Roster down to 23 after Cullen, Ferraro and Berry assigned to Sound Tigers
On the eve of the team's season-opening road trip, the Islanders have announced signing veteran C/RW Richard Park to a two-year contract. Park has been with the team since the start of training camp on a tryout. The Islanders have also assigned forwards Brandon Cullen and Peter Ferraro and defenseman Rick Berry to the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the AHL.
"Richard has worked hard for us everyday and has proved to us that he belongs on this team," said Islanders head coach Ted Nolan. "He's a battler and fighter and knows how to get the job done. We're confident that he'll get the job done for us, and more."
The 30-year-old Park played 60 games for the Vancouver Canucks last season and has played 368 over his NHL career, primarily with the Minnesota Wild. The native of Seoul, Korea has scored 50 goals with 57 assists for 107 points in his nine-year NHL career.
With the assignment of Berry, Cullen and Ferraro to Bridgeport, the Islanders' roster currently stands at 23 players with 13 forwards, eight defensemen and two goaltenders.
